The Guild of Metalsmiths

Education Page

"Scouting" One of our members has been registered
as a merit badge counselor in metalsmithing.
If you would like to know more about this
contact Mr. Richard Herman at TheScout@metalsmith.org

The Guild has many learning opportunities available. Our bimonthly meetings usually include demonstrations; we have hands on training workshops; conferences bring in demonstrators from all over the country; and somtimes we just get together in small groups for an educational party, byoh (bring your own hammer). These are listed under Guild Activities or just follow the links below.

Tools and Tooling

The April 1998 Guild meeting was about special tools and tooling. We took pictures of all the gems that were shared. They can be seen here .

Another tool that has been a favorite is a center finding jig which can be used for scribing center lines. Here is a picture of one.

One very interesting option for those interested in learning more about metalworking is to join a maillist discussion group .

These forums cover a wide range of material. There are several lists that deal with Metal. Ranging from Jewelry, to Knives, to general blacksmithing, to Art, and casting, molds, tools, equipment, . . . Sign on, listen a while, and Pop em a polite question with a short introduction to yourself. You may be surprised at the response. For more info, click on " join a maillist discussion group
