Chris Wilson, Mary Fredell and I went to visit Don Hammer in his Stillwater Minnesota Shop. Don showed us his English wheel and some of his other tools and techniques.
Our thanks to Don for taking the time to share this information with us.

Don's post dolly. Like a tailors ham it has constantly changing radii as you go around it and is symetrical so you can do both sides of something.

Metal to metal repairs. the parts are welded in and then forged smooth.

after forging and light sanding any tiny pits are acid etched and soldered. before finish sanding and painting. Solder does not pop out like bondo.

Don's kinking tool, used to start shrinking the edges of a panel. Don says the have to be soft steel or they break, and that the inner surface radii are important. From the way it looked and he described it a flat ellipse, so that it held the material for kinking but still left a rounded edge that was easy to beat smooth.
