Tinsmithing
|
In the summer of 1999 Dave took a class on tinsmithing at Eastfield Villiage in New York State. At left are some of the pieces that he made during that week.
For larger images of the individual pieces click on the text below
Dave just obtained a whole raft of his own tinsmithing tools and we are looking for great things in the months ahead.

Forged steel candle holder
|
Candlestick holder on vine with leaf. Hand forged, two piece
construction: The stem was forged from 1/4" mild (1018) steel, while the
candle cup is forged from a piece of 3/4" black iron pipe. The candle cup
is joined to the stem which has a tenon forged on the end and peined over
inside of the cup. The stem is hand forged round from square stock to
provide texture and a pleasing appearance. The leaf was veined with a
blacksmith's hot set-hammer, over the jaws of a vise. The leaf is
highlighted, having been rubbed with a brass brush while still hot.
