Richtig knives

Being a metalsmith and history enthusiast I found this article interesting. Towards the end it talks about what a couple of metallurgists suppose Richtig's heat treating secret was. Sounds much like marquenching as described by Howard Clark and Mike Blue but I thought the said that only worked with steels like O1 and L6. Also it sounds like Richtig's holding temp of 600 F is much higher than the 425F or so described by Howard and Mike. I would think the 600 degrees would be too hot to give 1095 any kind of hard edge.
