At what point do I stamp a sterling silver ring I'm making?

If I want to make a hammered sterling silver ring and stamp a word on it, do I stamp the word after it has been hammered? Does it go in this order - cut sterling silver, sand, flux, solder ends together, quench, pickle, neutralize, form ring shape on ring mandrel, add hammer texture, stamp word, then tumble?

I appreciate any help!!

Thank you, Chelsea

I haven't done this per se, but since the flat stamps won't conform to the round ring, I would stamp the letters before forming the metal over the mandrel (but after texturing). Knowing it might not work out the first time, and that the letters will distort a little, it might be a good idea to use copper first. I've seen beautiful rings with words stamped on the inside. Good luck and enjoy the process! -- Marty
