Cabinet Door Pulls

Unread post by handsofhans » Sun Jul 28, 2013 9:45 pm

Talk about a project with a learning curve, this one put me through the forge ringer a few times. I knew the profile I wanted for this handle. Roughly 1.25" width, .25" thick on the edges, tapering to a crisp ridge of 3/8" thickness. Ok, what stock do I begin with? 1/2" x 1"? 1" square? 1" round? I tried quite a few. I didn't want to have to do a lot of multi face forging to keep the width from jamming in my powerhammer die, and eventually I settled with 7/8" solid. Heres how its going so far.

Now I am turning the standoffs on the lathe with an 8-32 tapped hole to mount from behind the cabinet, like most pulls are mounted. Will post that soon. Thanks for checking it out. ;)

So the paint turned out great, but my very excited client showed up right away after I picked up the handles from the painter. So the final shot is worth a thousand words. She's peachy to say the least.
