real green sand

Unread post by ardenhanson » Sun Jun 01, 2014 7:37 pm

I got to spend part of 2 days at a bronze casting company called Cosanti. They used a ground green nickel slag "sand" product. No resin or other chemicals needed. After casting they ground up the molds, added water as necessary, and used the same sand again and again. The molds were comparable to Pepset in hardness. At Lamberton last fall the Hot Iron group went thru 3000 lbs of sand. In addition to the initial cost is the problem of disposal. I have looked on line for source of supply but I have not got any replies. Anybody out there have any knowledge or info about this product? Cosanti's sand came in a big plastic bag on a 42 by 48 inch pallet. Arden
