Beginners Hammer

Unread post by wayne.olson » Thu Apr 19, 2018 9:51 pm

Hello. FYI.
A couple of months ago I found a wooden handled 2 pound Vaughan cross pein hammer at Discount Steel for $24. I was thinking this might be a good recommendation for the beginners class at a reasonable price so I bought it to try out.
Unfortunately, after using it to forge some leafs out of 1/2 inch stock the end looks like a disaster. The picture does not show it but the "mushed" (technical term) end is about 1/8 inch out of shape. Could drop the handle and heat treat but that would defeat my purpose in this experiment.
SO, the search goes on. Thanks Wayne
