Fired it with coal today ,now I understand the tapered deep pot. It is Really hard to keep a nice bed of coals where you want them.

Brian,

You could use clay or a refactory of some sort to reshape the inside of the brake drum into the desired taper. Or forge/fabricate a tapered ring insert to go in the drum to serve the same function.

I am not sure I completely understand how your blower is connected to your tuyere. It looks like it is blowing into a shallow box which is connected at 90 degrees to the tuyere somehow. Can you post any pictures of that, like maybe the top, bottom or back view of the last photo?

Here are better photo's. I wish now that I did not machine that seal boss off ,it would have worked good to hold the refractory.
