Bottle Opener

Unread post by Martin Pansch » Sun Nov 17, 2013 11:08 pm

With everything else going on I didn't have time to make a bottle opener for the Madness but I spent a lot of commuting hours thinking about it and talking to my beer enthusiast friends about it. A friend of mine just had his 40 birthday so I thought it was a good chance to knock one out as a gift.

I made it like a stylized double bladed ax. The beards of the ax heads are actually for peeling off the wax that some limited release beers have on them. The finial is a (poorly) forged and carved hop. The finish is a brass brush for highlights and then a beeswax.

Learned a lot. Took about 4 hours all told with all the futzing around. No doubt next one will be better and faster.

Thanks Peter. My friend promptly named it The Hopsecutioner.

The funny thing, at least to me, is that while I was giving this opener to my friend, unbeknownst to me, Jim Erickson was dropping off a opener for me at my place. There has to be rule of "conservation of opener mass" in effect.

That is really a great bottle opener!

Hopsecutioner. Hehehe! My brother got a kick out of that.
