SUMMARY:June Hammer-In 2024
DESCRIPTION:2024 Hammer-In is happening June 7 & 8 at Nowthen Blacksmith Shop\nMap to Nowthen MN \nDays and times:\nFriday\, June 7: 4:30pm-0dark:thirty.\nSaturday\, June 8: 0light: thirty to 0dark: thirty (all day.) \nHot stuff will be happening at the annual Spring Hammer-in taking place at the Nowthen Threshing Show grounds Blacksmith Shop. This year there will be a regular business meeting scheduled at the same time! Details forthcoming and what a way to jam pack a full day with friends and family!\nThe blind forging competition will return on Saturday afternoon. The goal will be a friendly forge off. \nThe rules: \n\nAn object is placed inside a box and you must create (forge) the unknown object by what you can feel. No peeking!\nWe usually do a time limit with this as well.\nPrizes to be announced!\n\nWe will focus our efforts on the Fall Conference contest: Check page 2 in this Forum for what that is. If you want to work on skills or another project\, that’s ok! \nCome and hang out with a bunch of your friends\, make new friends\, and share/learn some new skills. Beginners/Newbies are highly welcome to come and try your hand at smithing. \nCamping on-site is available Friday and Saturday night on primitive sites. Port-a-potties on site. Five forges are open for use. Coal will be provided. I will also bring another forge and anvil for use. If you want to bring your own equipment—please do! Bring any examples you have to share with others. Bring your own tools if you have them. Some limited steel stock is available\, but if you need specific sizes\, feel free to bring your own steel. Scrap pieces ok. This event will hopefully give you some inspiration to help you to come up with your own design for the Fall Conference theme contest and help you learn how to make it. If you don’t know how to make something\, ask ahead of time\, and we will try very hard to accommodate. \nIf you have some skills in the creation of items and/or tools and would like to demo or have any questions about the event\, please contact me: Wayne Olson\, 320 280-0100. There is no charge to participate in this event. \nThe Nowthen Power Show grounds are located at 7415 Old Viking Blvd\, Nowthen\, MN.\nI plan to arrive around 3:30 pm on Friday for anyone that wants to help set up\, and I will need some help to clean up very late on Saturday night. Your help is very much welcome. \nIf you want to go all night on Saturday night\, I will stay thru Sunday to help you out. Sounds like a challenge! See ya there!

SUMMARY:Volunteer Op: Spring Festival\, Holtz Farm\, Eagan MN
DESCRIPTION:$3/person Admission |11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.\n4665 Manor Dr\, Eagan\, MN 55123 \nEnjoy a spring afternoon of old-fashioned fun at Historic Holz Farm. The Friends of the Farm and the City of Eagan invite you to learn about life on the farm. Guests will be able to enjoy a hayride\, tour the house and listen to live music! Snacks and souvenirs will be available for purchased from the General Store. Tickets required for all individuals 12 months and older\, tickets available at onsite or ahead of time at discovereagan.com. \nContact Zach Christiansen for details: ziggmo@gmail.com\, 763-568-2614 \nNote from Zach Christiansen\, the champion:\nThe event is pretty relaxed. Show up a bit early\, clear out the shed so there is room to work (stumps\, fire pits\, some cobbler items) then I setup my forge and anvil so I’m ready for the day. After that it’s just making things\, talking to visitors/answering questions\, and I give away the items I make. Mostly I make hooks or duplex nail swords\, but any small quick to make item has been good for me. I’m sure someone could do larger items\, knives\, etc too. I also have a table setup to show other items I have made in classes. It gives another talking point. And of course keeping an eye out for those folks who are extra curious and making sure they get a brochure.

SUMMARY:Saint Clement's Feast Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:Not sure what to do in the gap between The Madness and the Christmas party?\nCome Celebrate St. Clement’s Feast Day with Beer and Blacksmiths!\nObserved On Saturday\, 19 November 2022\nHosted by Torg Brewery and The Guild of Metalsmiths\nSt. Clement is (one of) the patron saint of blacksmiths and metalworkers. His feast day was a rare day off for these metal artisans when their toils at the forge was replaced by food and drink\, and the noise of the shop was replaced by the (one must assume off-tune) singing and toasting in pubs. Whether you are a smith or not\, come join us as we celebrate this heritage!\nWhere: 8421 University Avenue NE\, Spring Lake Park\, MN 55432\nWhen: The brewery is open 1PM to 11PM. Show up any time in there and look for blacksmiths. We should be easy to spot.\n· First drink is free for Guild members!\n· Bring potluck food/snacks suitable for a grazing Feast of St. Clement!\n· Bring show and tell items to impress your fellow Guilders and the non-smithing public!\n· Play Bocce Anvil (if I can repair them in time) and Pinch the Devil’s Nose!\n· If we are lucky Old Clem might even grace us with his presence!\nQuestions?
