Details forthcoming and what a way to jam pack a full day with friends and family!\nThe blind forging competition will return on Saturday afternoon. The goal will be a friendly forge off. \nThe rules: \n\nAn object is placed inside a box and you must create (forge) the unknown object by what you can feel. No peeking!\nWe usually do a time limit with this as well.\nPrizes to be announced!\n\nWe will focus our efforts on the Fall Conference contest: Check page 2 in this Forum for what that is. DESCRIPTION:The Education and Program Committees extend an invitation to a trial…\nSaturday General Membership All-Day Event\nSaturday\, June 17th\nThis event will coincide with the June NOWTHEN HAMMER-IN on June 16 and 17.\nWe invite you to the Nowthen Historical Power Association show grounds: 7415 Old Viking Blvd\, Nowthen MN (north of Anoka/Ramsey)  (map below)\nThe day’s schedule:\nYou may arrive any time on Saturday morning. There will be smiths working in the shop all day making fun and beautiful forgings and you can watch or possibly assist. There will be a short business meeting conducted by our President\, Larry Wasmund at around 11:00 a.m. This meeting will last 25-20 minutes and will be followed by a potluck meal.  \nAt 1:30 there will be a group of our blacksmiths competing in a blind forging contest. No\, they are not blindfolded but they won’t know until they are done if they forged the proper item. They must reach into an enclosed box and without seeing the item\, using only one hand\, determine the shape/item/ textures\, etc. and then forge the item with the piece of stock provided. The closest forging to the original will receive special recognition. There will be forging on at least 5 stations all day long. \nEnjoy the day socializing with members and friends or watch the forging and ask questions. Stay as late as you want or until things wind up for the night. \nTaste of Blacksmithing Sessions\nAs a special offering there will be a portable shop trailer on-site and you may be able to get a TASTE OF BLACKSMITHING with hands-on demonstration. This is available to anyone who attends\, but minor children must be accompanied by their parent. There will be no cost for this “Taste” event that is about 30 minutes long\, and you will take your forging with you. Space will be limited for this event so registration and time must be reserved at the trailer that morning. \nCome on– get your hands dirty! What to bring…\nAnyone is welcome to bring their tools to forge for awhile on one of the five stations existing in the blacksmith building\, or bring your own forge and anvil and set up outside for the day. \nThis will be a family-friendly event. Alcohol in moderation is allowed on the grounds. BYOB and beverages for your family and a dish to pass for the noon potluck. SUMMARY:2019 Demo Op: Nowthen Threshing Show
DESCRIPTION:Contact Christina Dodge at 612-741-9292 or christina.guildmbr@gmail.com to volunteer for this event. \nThis is open to all Guild members. Also the Nowthen Historical Power Association has their spring tractor pull that Saturday so the grounds will be open for all. We’ll ask Guild members to sign up ahead of time to demonstrate (to make sure we’re fully staffed)\, but we can usually accommodate drop-ins\, too. In the past we have had a sign up sheet at the August Guild meeting and distribute an event pass. No costumes are needed. Forging stations are provided in a covered building that accommodates the public as well as the demonstrators.

DESCRIPTION:If you have never attended a Hammer-in and are curious about what it is\, here is a primer for you. This is an event held once a year by The Guild of Metalsmiths at the Nowthen Historical Power Association Blacksmith Shop outside Nowthen\, MN. Here is a place that you can come and hang out with a bunch of your old friends\, make new friends\, and share/learn some new skills. Time/Date: 7:30-11:00pm on the evening of Friday\, June 15 and all day June 16 and June 17 from 8am till 4:00 pm Here are some highlights:\n· Camping on-site is available Friday night and Saturday night on primitive sites\n· Five forges are open for use the entire weekend\n· Coal will be provided\n· Beginners welcome\, we will help you discover the joys of pounding hot iron\n· Port-a-potties on site\nBring your own tools if you have them. Some limited steel stock is available\, but if you need specific sizes feel free to bring your own steel\, scrap pieces ok.\nThis year we will have some demonstrations and discussions of cheese slicers in preparation for the contest at this year’s Madness (Fall Conference.)\nQuestions about how to design or build a cheese slicer? What are the different kinds of slicers?
