Open Forge

The Education Committee is offering a Free Open Forge for Guild Members Only. There are eight forges available for our membership to use. There is no lesson or agenda except to get some iron hot and hit it with a hammer. There are sign-ups that will guarantee you a forge space. If you just want to stop by and hang out, you are welcome to do so. If there’s space at a forge, have at it. This is an excellent opportunity to hang out with and learn from fellow smiths. Beginners are welcome to send Harvey an email with their topic of interest or problem you’re trying to solve, and we’ll do our best to have an answer and/or help available.

Bring: The Guild provides the space (forges, anvils, etc.) and coal. Please bring your own steel, hammers, tongs, chisels, etc.

Safety Equipment: the usual for forging with coal: gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing of natural fiber with no cuffs or fraying, and leather boots or shoes
