January 24 @ 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
$100 – $130

Instructor: Dave Gavin

Class size: Maximum students: 8                   Minimum students: 4

Class Description: This years tongs are what I’m calling pipe tongs. They will hold pipe of nearly any size by one edge vs having one for each size of pipe that you might work with. They will also hold just about any size material. FYI – these work really well for working on bells once the end has been flared out, as the jaws will reach over and not damage the flaring as you work on the rest of the bell.

Tools and Equipment or other items participants are to bring to the class: favorite hammer, ball peen hammer, tongs to hold 3/8” – ½” round, files

Safety Equipment: (the usual for forging with coal: gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing of natural fiber with no cuffs or fraying, and leather boots or shoes.)

Other Equipment: We will bring belt sander, torch, and specialty tooling to make one of the jaws.

Lunch Arrangements: On your own or local establishments

To register online, go to The Guild of Metalsmiths website, https://www.metalsmith.org/education
