Joinery Class – Part One 2018

This is Part One of three of the Joinery class series. The overall course is project based to incorporate all that is learned in this three part series. The final project is a hanging bracket. One part of the final project will be introduced during each course. In this first 12 hours of instruction the student will learn the importance of proper tool making to accomplish successful joinery. We will concentrate this portion on forging tooling to perform ½” slot punching and drifting with ½” round and square drifts. On the second day we will concentrate on Upsets and Heeled Tenons. Intermediate blacksmithing skills required.
Tools & Equipment: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hammers (rounding & flat face/peen), tongs (rivet ½” & bolt jaw ¾”), files (hot rasp & 12″ bastard), center punch, hot cut chisel, measuring device (non-flammable), hardy tool (anvil block 1 ½” square recommended), worn or broken grinding wheel (for polishing).
Lunch: Pack one or go out.
